Recently, there was a proposal on the table to rename the field at Sanford Stadium after longtime Georgia coach and athletic director Vince Dooley.

Now, it appears that the resolution has passed, and the Georgia football stadium will now be called “Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium.”

Per a report from OnlineAthens.com, the Georgia regents held a vote on Tuesday and approved the change:

In a vote with no suspense, the board gave its formal approval to naming the field in honor of former UGA football coach and athletic director Vince Dooley.

“I’m pleased that the board approved it,” said UGA President Jere Morehead, who attended the meeting with UGA Vice President for Government Relations Toby Carr.

Dooley served as Georgia’s football coach for 25 years, amassing a record of 201-77-10 and leading the Bulldogs to the 1980 national title.

He’s certainly well-deserving of this honor, and it’s great to see the Georgia regents honor the Bulldog legend.
