It’s always entertaining to hear former Alabama players tell Nick Saban stories, and this one from former Crimson Tide quarterback Greg McElroy is a good one.

During Saturday’s broadcast of the Alabama-Arkansas game, McElroy, who is now a broadcaster for SEC Network, shared a tale about a rough stretch during his junior season with the Crimson Tide. And it’s another classic Saban story.

“We played against Ole Miss in 2009, and I didn’t play great that game, I didn’t play bad,” McElroy recalled on the broadcast. “I followed it up the next week with a really bad performance against South Carolina. That was Mark’s Heisman moment by the way, went for 250 [yards] on the ground, Mark Ingram. The next day, I didn’t see the field well at all, threw a couple picks, played horribly and Nick Saban said, ‘Yeah, we’re going to check you for a concussion, we are. Because there’s no way you can play as bad as you’re playing and not be concussed.’ Of course, I did go through the concussion protocol, I did not have a concussion, I was seeing ghosts if you will.”

This story doesn’t come as much of a surprise, as it sounds just like something Saban would do. There are probably plenty of more tales like this one, and fortunately, McElroy will continue to be in the broadcast booth in the future, so perhaps he’ll have more to share.
