The University of Texas has made a decision on Tom Herman for the 2021 season: he’s staying in Austin.

Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte announced Saturday that Herman will return next season and remain the Longhorns head coach.

The Longhorns had courted Urban Meyer to replace Herman, but Meyer told the university Sunday that he was leaning towards not coaching, citing health issues. Meyer is currently an analyst on FOX Sports’ pregame show.

Del Conte released a graphic with a statement saying Herman will return in 2021.

“There’s been a lot of speculation about the future of our football coach,” The statement read. “My policy is to wait until the end of the season before evaluating and commenting on our program and coaches. With the close of the regular season, I want to reiterate that Tom Herman is our coach.”

Herman is 6-3 this season and 31-18 overall since taking over Texas in 2017.
