There’s no family that has more experience, and interest from fans and media, about Ole Miss football than the Mannings.

At their Manning Passing Academy over the weekend in Louisiana, Archie and Eli Manning offered their thoughts on the Ole Miss program, including Lane Kiffin and Matt Corral following a 5-5 season in 2020 when the Rebels won the Outback Bowl. Ole Miss opens this season on Sept. 5 against Louisville in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta.

“I think obviously their offense was exciting to watch last year and winning games,” Eli said, per the Clarion-Ledger. “I think they’re headed in the right direction and continuing to get recruits. I’m excited. It’s an exciting time and hopefully we can continue that trend.”

Eli added the Corral throws the ball real well. His father agreed.

Ole Miss is entering the second year under Kiffin and offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby. It’s the first time in four years at Ole Miss that Corral is coached by the same offensive coordinator as the year before.

“Matt had a great year last year. He had a great year,” Archie said. “He gets the ball down the field, gets it into his receivers’ hands, looks like a good leader out there. He makes things happen. There’s no reason to believe he won’t have another great year this year.”

He also admitted that the defense has room for improvement after last year’s struggles.

“Last year we scored probably enough points,” Archie said. “Didn’t stop people too well. I think they’ve made efforts to get more people on the defensive side of the ball through recruiting, maybe the portal a little bit and some people just developed. Hopefully it’ll be a good year for the Rebels.”
