Nick Saban and Jimbo Fisher’s recent public spat will get the headlines during SEC spring meetings this week in Destin, Florida.

But, perhaps a more important issue facing the future of the SEC is what the conference schedule will look like once Texas and Oklahoma join the league.

On Tuesday, Saban spoke with the media and said he supports a move to 9 conference games. He added that he’s in favor of eliminating games that don’t do much to draw fan interest:

It seems likely that, with 16 teams once the Longhorns and Sooners join, 9 conference games would make the most sense.

Then, of course, there’s still the issue of how each team’s 8 or 9 conference games will be decided. There’s still a lot of work to be done on this issue. We’ll see what happens in the coming days in Destin!
