Alabama’s 2025 recruiting class took another hit Tuesday.

This time it comes from Javion Hilson, an impact edge defender out of Cocoa (FL) High School. Hilson had been committed to the Crimson Tide, but he flipped his commitment to Florida State and head coach Mike Norvell.

So far, it has not been a bright start to Alabama’s recruiting class since the hiring of Kalen DeBoer. On the other hand, landing Hilson is a major win for Norvell and his staff.

According to the 247 Sports Composite, the 6-foot-3.5 and 225-pound Hilson is a 4-star recruit and the No. 7 edge available. The system also rates Hilson as a top-50 prospect, coming in at No. 47 overall.

Hilson is the 4th hard commitment for Florida State so far in the 2025 recruiting class. He immediately becomes the second-highest-ranked prospect in that group with all 4 players in-state recruits for the Seminoles.

Meanwhile, Alabama’s recruiting class has dipped to 3 commitments following the moves of Hilson, 5-star wide receiver Jaime Ffrench and 4-star interior offensive lineman Mason Short. DeBoer and his staff will have their work cut out to put the pieces back together and deliver a strong initial recruiting class for the Crimson Tide.
