Brian Flores has received plenty of attention in recent weeks because of his lawsuits filed against the NFL, the Denver Broncos, Miami Dolphins and New York Giants. But given his record and tenure with the Dolphins, his relationship with former Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa has come into focus.

Once Flores was fired this past season, there was a reported narrative that Flores didn’t want Tagovailoa, and that was part of the reason for the team being interested in possibly trading for Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson.

Flores was a recent guest on “I Am Athlete” and explained his perspective on it, and how that may differ from the outside narrative.

“This is an interesting topic because it wasn’t strained,” he said. “We had a good relationship. It was a player-coach relationship, and I think in a relationship like that, when the coach challenges the player, often times the player challenges the coach. And I think there was a great deal of respect between the 2 of us.”

Flores said Tagovailoa works and developed himself to get better over 2 years.

“I think he’s got a bright future,” Flores said. “I wish him all the best. So the world can think what it wants to think, ask Tua. I’m here to say what I’ve got to say, ask him. I think he’d say the same thing.”
