Closest game of season: Fans, media react to Alabama narrowly winning SEC Championship
Alabama seemingly had an answer for every punch and counter punch Florida threw at the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship in Atlanta.
QB Mac Jones put up 418 passing yards and five touchdowns, while Najee Harris chipped in 178 yards and two touchdowns receiving. Harris added five catches for 67 yards. DeVonta Harris had 15 catches on 18 targets for 184 yards and two scores himself.
In a season where Alabama had won every other game by at least 15 points, Florida gave the Crimson Tide their closest game yet. But Alabama had enough in the end, and won the SEC title, 52-46.
Here’s a collection of fan and media reaction to Alabama’s win:
Like I told @AriWasserman on the podcast Friday. Bama wins. Florida covers.
Never a doubt.
(There were many doubts.)

Alabama knocks off Florida 52-46 in its closest game of the season. Tide (11-0) will be No. 1 in the #CFBPlayoff field when it is announced Sunday.

Najee Harris is calling game!

Mac Jones, Devonta Smith and Najee Harris should all just split custody of the Heisman.
Each person gets a week each month.

Devonta Smith has 15 Catches with 2TDs, Najee Harris has 270yards from scrimmage with 5TDs 🤦🏾♂️

Alabama is going to win this.

Alabama is a team. They have a leader, they’re disciplined, they answer for their mistakes, and they have each other’s backs. Nick Saban absolutely puts these guys on another level.

Alabama won the SEC without Waddle. Hope the guy gets well but this is why no one feels sorry for them. They always reload. Saban a god
— Matthew Haddock (@MattHaddock901) December 20, 2020
Alabama used to win 20-17 with play action and defense. Now they can score in the 50’s because Saban revamped his program to fit the era and still kills people. He’s the GOAT by a landslide. Just not close. #RollTide

It’s so strange for a Nick Saban Alabama team to 1) have a perfect double-digit kicker and 2) have an offense that is undeniably doing better than its defense. Not that the defense is remotely bad! But the offense is just ridiculous.

DeVonta Smith recovers the onside kick. This is another Heisman moment.

Alabama with 606 total yards to Florida’s 407.

Record for points in SECCG is from 2013 when Auburn and Missouri combined for 101.

all i wanted was for alabama to win in a close game. i hate blowouts on a big stage.

The SEC championship wasn’t as close as people are making it out to be. Florida got close but it never felt like Alabama was gonna lose it.
— Arthur Bucco (@chefartieb) December 20, 2020
Trask got absolutely smacked on that last play. Ouch.
Florida made it close at the end, but Alabama did what we thought they would. #SECChampionshipGame
