Denver Broncos safety and former Alabama standout Kareem Jackson has been handed a 4-game suspension by the NFL, the league announced today.

Early in the Broncos’ Week 11 game against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night, Jackson appeared to lead with his helmet during a hit on Vikings quarterback Joshua Dobbs. Jackson was not penalized for the hit; however, the NFL announced that it would review it considering he had just returned from a 2-game suspension.

That initial suspension was due to an incident in Week 7 against the Green Bay Packers when Jackson was ejected after a similar hit on tight end Luke Musgrave. He originally was handed a 4-game ban but saw it reduced to 2 games following an appeal.

However, after his hit on Dobbs, Jackson won’t play for the next 4 weeks due to “repeated violations of playing rules intended to protect the health and safety of players,” according to league vice president of football operations Jon Runyan. Jackson is eligible to return for Week 15 but could appeal.
