Former Alabama DB Saivion Smith’s NFL career has been extended to a new team.

The Denver Broncos announced that they signed cornerback Smith ahead of Wednesday’s practice. Smith has been in the NFL with three teams, and he also played for the XFL’s Houston Roughnecks. Smith entered the NFL in 2019 as an undrafted free agent with the Jaguars, but did not make the team’s final roster.

Smith returned to the NFL in 2020 as a member of the Dallas Cowboys and appeared in six games, including one start. He made three total tackles on defense but more often received playing time on the special teams unit, where he played 18 percent of their snaps.

Before his time in Denver, Smith competed during the 2021 offseason as a member of the Seattle Seahawks.

Smith is another player with Alabama ties on the Denver roster, and it appears the Broncos are seeking an upgrade for one of the backup cornerback spots.

Smith joins former Crimson Tide teammate Patrick Surtain II in the Broncos’ secondary. Denver added Surtain in the first round of the NFL Draft.
