Former Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith has stepped into the star receiving role for the Philadelphia Eagles with A.J. Brown sidelined with an injury, and that means he gets plenty of targets. With more targets comes more opportunities to get hit, and Smith received a bone-rattling one during the team’s game against the New Orleans Saints.

After catching a short route over the middle in the fourth quarter, Smith carried two defenders on his back as they pushed him towards the line of scrimmage. From an angle Smith couldn’t see, 320-pound defensive tackle Khristian Boyd then came running in and delivered a brutal hit that jarred the ball loose.

Even more concerning, Smith’s helmet was knocked off during the play. Fortunately, he was alert when he was helped off the field.

Players from both teams came out onto the field and took knees as Smith was tended to on the field. He was later ruled out with a concussion.
