Jameson Williams drafted by Lions: NFL, Alabama fans and media react as Detroit trades up for former Alabama WR
The Detroit Lions made a big trade to move up to the 12th overall selection in the 2022 NFL Draft.
The Lions already had the 2nd-overall pick, which they used to select Michigan defensive end Aidan Hutchinson. They were scheduled to hold the final pick of the 1st round, originally obtained during their trade of Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams for Jared Goff. However, they’d trade that selection, along with the 34th and 66th pick, to the Vikings for the 12th and 46 picks.
And that 12th pick was used to provide a weapon in the receiving corps for Goff as Detroit took Alabama wide receiver Jameson Williams. Williams was electric for the Crimson Tide in his lone season in Tuscaloosa after 2 years at Ohio State, making 79 catches for 1,572 yards and 15 touchdowns before suffering an ACL tear in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game against Georgia.
Now, Williams’ next stop is Detroit, and a franchise looking for its first playoff appearance since 2016. Here’s how social media reacted:
Jameson Williams is recovering well from ACL. Only concern from teams was the hope he’d slow down a bit on rehab
Probably mid season but what a threat for Lions.

If I could pound the table for only one prospect, Jameson Williams would be my pick. His ability to pull away from defenders without strain and leverage his speed is mesmerizing.
It’s scary he hasn’t even scraped the ceiling of his potential. The Lions got an exciting playmaker.

Jameson Williams and Aiden Hutchinson? Yeah, that’s a good draft.

What makes getting Jameson Williams that much sweeter is it didn't really take much to move up and get the best wide receiver in the draft.
