It’s not often you see a starting wide receiver stay on the field to play special teams as his team punts the ball away. But that’s what Alabama junior Jameson Williams has been doing of late.

Why exactly is Williams part of the group chasing down opposing punt returners? Well, because he wanted to be.

“I’d rather be on the field on that fourth down than be on the sideline,” Williams said, per Mike Rodak of AL.com.

It’s worked out well for the Crimson Tide, as Williams has made a positive impact with his special teams play. That shouldn’t come as a surprise, because Williams has shown the type of athleticism he has in various ways.

Williams’ primary role will continue to be at wide receiver, though, and he’s been impressive in his 1st season at Alabama. He has 68 catches for 1,445 yards and 15 touchdowns this year.

Now, Williams will try to help lead the Crimson Tide to a national championship. Alabama’s quest for back-to-back titles will begin in the College Football Playoff semifinals, as it’s set to take on Cincinnati in the Cotton Bowl on Dec. 31.
