Kalen DeBoer laments ‘wasted plays’ after slow start offensively vs. Tennessee
Kalen DeBoer is frustrated with his team’s offensive performance in the first half against Tennessee.
The Crimson Tide have a 7-0 lead in the first half, but they had some missed opportunities in the first half. Tennessee turned the ball over 3 times, but Alabama failed to score any points off of those takeaways.
The main culprit was penalties. The crowd at Neyland Stadium certainly seemed to be a factor at times, with Alabama’s offense struggling to stay in-sync. Alabama was penalized 10 times for 73 yards in the first half.
“We can’t waste a play. We have a first down, and there’s a whistle that gets blown,” DeBoer said on the Crimson Tide Sports Network. “I don’t care what the excuses are, we got to get set and we somehow we all got to be in sync, OK? And there’s something different every play. Can’t waste those plays. They’re the ones that are costing us drives.”
In addition to the penalties, Alabama struggled to move the ball on a down-to-down basis. The Crimson Tide averaged just 3.5 yards yards per play in the first half. Quarterback Jalen Milroe also threw an interception in the end zone late in the first quarter.
Alabama is looking for its second straight win over Tennessee.
