Kevin Steele is reportedly putting a bow on his coaching career coming out of the 2023 season.
A longtime coach in the college ranks, Steele rejoined Nick Saban’s program in 2023 for a third time. He spent the past season as the defensive coordinator for the Crimson Tide, and he’s expected to retire heading into 2024.
That’s per a report from ESPN’s Chris Low who reported the soon-to-be 66-year-old Steele is set to hang things up after 40 years in coaching. That includes 12 years spent as a DC with Steele spending a large amount of his coaching in the SEC and ACC.
Veteran DC Kevin Steele, who just completed his third different stint at @AlabamaFTBL under Nick Saban, plans to retire from coaching, sources tell ESPN. Steele, who turns 66 in March, has spent 40 years in coaching, 12 as a DC, and was a finalist for the Broyles Award in 2017.

Steele played linebacker at Tennessee in the 1970s and eventually began his coaching career as an assistant with the Vols. He would go on to spend time on the coaching staff at Nebraska, Florida State, Alabama, Clemson, Auburn, LSU and Miami, among others.
Steele would land a head coaching job at Baylor, going 9-36 during 4 seasons leading the Bears. He also served as the interim coach for Auburn in the Citrus Bowl following the 2020 season.
