Nate Oats points to Alabama's response after Texas A&M's loss, team's leadership
Nate Oats watched his Alabama men’s basketball team stub its toe earlier this week with a home loss to Texas A&M. Now it’s up to the Crimson Tide to bounce back.
Ahead of the regular season finale on Saturday against LSU, Oats pointed to the team’s response following the 87-71 loss to the Aggies.
Alabama was victimized by Quenton Jackson, who had 15 points in the first 10 minutes of the second half to power the Aggies to their third straight win. The Crimson Tide, meanwhile, were outscored 50-31 after they took a 3-point lead into halftime in the team’s home finale.
Oats said it’s a little mind-boggling that the team has to learn the same lesson over and over again this season.
“We’ve responded well every time we’ve had these losses,” he said. “… There’s a a leadership void after a loss like that, so sometimes guys step into that void. We’re gonna see how the leadership goes.”
Nate Oats on the team’s response after the A&M loss: “I think the guys realized it wasn’t good. Why we continue to have to learn the same lesson over and over again this year is a little mind-boggling to me. … We’ve responded well every time we’ve had these losses.”

Nate Oats on leadership: “The guys that we need to lead have been playing hard in practice and trying to lead. There’s a leadership void after a loss like that, so sometimes guys step into that void. We’re gonna see how the leadership goes.”
