When it comes to putting together a college football team, sometimes it’s good to have some elite talent that can cover for other areas of weakness.

Sometimes, though, having a team that maybe doesn’t have the same top-level talent can be just as great if all the players on the roster fit together well.

The latter was certainly the case for the 1995 Nebraska Cornhuskers, who went 12-0 and won the national championship under coach Tom Osborne. On Sunday, ESPN’s Trevor Matich said he thinks that squad is the best college team of all time.

That prompted ESPN reporter Chris Low to chime in, saying he talked with Alabama coach Nick Saban last week and Saban also had great things to say about that year’s Cornhuskers:

“Most complete” and “best” are not necessarily the same thing, but it is still high praise for the Huskers. It would be interesting to get Saban’s thoughts on what he thinks the best team of all-time is, though, especially since a couple of his Alabama squads would be in the mix.
