Paul Finebaum gives Nick Saban 'brilliant' grade for NFL Draft coverage
Paul Finebaum loved what he saw out of Nick Saban during ESPN’s coverage of the NFL Draft. He was not the only one with the legendary head coach turning in a performance that was appreciated by many.
During Monday’s appearance on “McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning,” Finebaum rated Saban’s performance as “brilliant” while covering the draft. Always one of the best head coaches during his career, Finebaum believes Saban was one of the best voices throughout ESPN’s coverage of the draft.
“I thought he was brilliant, and he was exactly the way he was on the field. He was the best at everything he was doing,” said Finebaum. “He broke things down in such a concise, easy-to-understand way that if he really wanted it, he could have a long and brilliant career in broadcasting. The question is how much does he want to do?
“I just think if given the opportunity, this is the key phrase here, he can do whatever he wants in that field. Frankly, I don’t know what your partner thinks because he’s up in the booth, but I think (Saban) would also be good at breaking down games while they’re going on.
“No question,” said Greg McElroy in resposne. “He can do anything, for sure. If he wanted to do games, by all means.”

Nick Saban at the draft
In true Saban fashion, he stirred social media time and time again with his takes and explanations on prospects. His performance cannot be tied to just one clip, but one of his best involved a breakdown of athletic instincts and intuition.
Nick Saban explaining and defining athletic instincts is maybe the most fascinating thing I’ve ever heard.

One of Saban’s best descriptions of the first round was a major compliment to former LSU star Jayden Daniels. According to Saban, the LSU QB is the kind of player that keeps you up at night wondering how to defend.
“Kind of guy you lay and look at the ceiling at night wondering how you’re going to defend him.”

As for one of Saban’s favorite players in the draft, he reserved some of his biggest affection for Michigan defensive back Mike Sainristil. Saban made the case that the Wolverine star could be the best “pound for pound” player in this year’s draft.
“I LOVE… there’s a difference between love and LOVE… I LOVE this guy. This guy may be the best football player pound-for-pound in the draft.” – Nick Saban on Michigan CB Mike Sainristil, selected by the Commanders at No. 50 ??️ #NFLDraft pic.twitter.com/fzWiVQrvFY

Saban shining in the draft coverage is not exactly a surprise to anyone who has heard the head coach speak. Now, fans can look forward to Saban joining College GameDay again in the fall where he is bound to be a regular favorite on the desk.
Georgia’s record of 15 players drafted in one draft will stand for the next 50 years.
Or at least until the next draft.

2020 gump
2023 SEC champions and made the playoffs. I am trying to remember who Bama beat to reach those achievements. Any ideas?
It turned into a beatdown in the dawgs backyard, 27-24
1-5. Kirby will always have that on his resume.
Seeing a relaxed Saban talking football is entertaining and enlightening.
Other than Saban trying (and failing) to slight Aramis Mimms
Awww, did you get your little feelings hurt Tdow? Just wait, Negan will be around with your pacifier momentarily!
boxster…My though exactly. He’s enjoying his retirement & is far more relaxed.

My comment has been awaiting moderation for like 6 hours so maybe I said a bad word. I’ll try again.
I actually felt Saban’s draft coverage was pretty bad, but I’m biased of course. The way he talked down about Kamari Lassiter was really disappointing, as he’s one of my favorite dawgs over the past few years. Such a great player from Tuscaloosa, and Nick’s acting like they didn’t even want him, like he was somehow lacking the bama standard or something.
I get that he’s going to be excited when his guys get drafted, but it definitely felt like he was trying to negatively recruit other schools, especially UGA. And that’s not even mentioning how disrespectful his comments were about Amarius Mimms who went first round. Talking about Mimms like he was going to be a bust. Frustrating to watch.
Just curious, because I didn’t watch the whole draft (it got way too long and drawn out and boring), but did Saban make a negative comment about any bama player? Any negative comment at all? Just curious.
Gotta be insane if you think he WON’T be biased towards Bama on the set, as for being exclusively negative towards UGA players… idk about that one he has a lot of respect for UGA and Kirby so thrashing them on live TV ain’t the way to show it LOL
Yeah I know, I get it. Kirby would’ve done the same thing in regards to UGA players. I still couldn’t help feeling that Nick was throwing shade though. But at the end of the day, who cares. Teams draft who they’re gonna draft regardless of what any commentator thinks.
Saban was very complimentary of Bowers as well as Daniels and Nabers out of LSU. He probably thought Mimms went a little too high in the draft as did others. I think he felt McConkey should have been picked higher.
