Nick Saban has added more firepower to his support staff.

Per AL.com’s Matt Zenitz, Alabama has hired former Houston head coach Major Applewhite as an analyst. Applewhite served on Saban’s first Alabama staff in 2007 as the offensive coordinator; however, he left for his alma-mater Texas the next season.

Applewhite was Houston’s head coach the last two seasons before the university fired him and hired Dana Holgorsen following the bowl game. He coached under Tom Herman at Houston for two seasons before becoming the head coach.

During his playing days, Applewhite was the quarterback at Texas from 1998-2001. He’s coached at Texas, Syracuse, Rice, Alabama and Houston in a coaching career that started in 2003.

Saban has added both Applewhite and Mike Stoops to his staff this offseason.
