Ron Rivera was among the Washington Commanders representatives who visited Brian Robinson in the hospital after the former Alabama standout was shot Sunday evening in Washington, D.C.

Rivera used Twitter to share a message from Robinson. The Commanders rookie running back appreciates all the kind words, prayers and support since he was shot in a reported attempted robbery, the head coach relayed. Rivera added that Robinson is in good spirits and hopes to be back in action soon.

D.C. Police told reporters that Robinson was shot around 6 p.m. Sunday, sustaining 2 gunshot wounds to his lower extremities. His injuries are reported to be non-life-threatening. Robinson appears to have been the target of an attempted robbery or carjacking. Two suspects fled and a firearm was recovered nearby.

Prior to Rivera’s tweet, the Commanders tweeted a statement acknowledging the team was aware of Robinson’s injuries and officials were on-site at the hospital.
