Sam Pittman on playing Alabama: ‘We believe we can win’

Arkansas coach Sam Pittman didn’t mince words when asked about playing Alabama.
“Well, first of all, our team believes we can win,” Pittman said during the “Marty and McGhee” show on The SEC Network. “To me, that’s the biggest obstacle when you play Alabama.”
The game will certainly be challenging for Arkansas as it would be for any team. Alabama is ranked No. 2 in the nation and the game will be held at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
“There’s a lot of teams that walk in there and (say) ‘Hey, we have no chance’,” Pittman said. “I don’t feel that’s the way our team is going to walk in there today. We know we’d have to play an exceptional game…but we believe we can win and we’ll see what happens.”
There’s much more reason for Pittman’s team to believe in him during his second season. Arkansas was the talk of the nation earlier in the season when they beat Texas and Texas A&M in September. Those teams were ranked No. 15 and No. 7, respectively, in the country when they played the Razorbacks. Pittman said instilling belief is a difficult, but necessary, challenge when building a program.
“It’s hard,” Pittman said. “The first thing is you have to win some games. You have to beat a Texas or an A&M…so the kids will (say) ‘Hey, what they’re selling, I can start buying.'”

Belief or not, Arkansas is only 3-3 in the SEC and 7-3 overall. The Alabama-Arkansas game is set for 3:30 EST on CBS.
