Alabama QB Mac Jones has been outstanding so far this season. Through 5 games, he has 1,905 passing yards, 12 touchdowns and only 2 interceptions.

He’s getting some legitimate Heisman Trophy buzz, and on Saturday morning’s “SEC Nation,” analyst Tim Tebow said he actually has Jones at No. 1 on his list.

Per Tebow, Jones is ahead of Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence because of his accuracy down the field (via 247Sports):

“This might shock some people coming in at No. 2, Trevor Lawrence. I love this kid. I think he’s one of the best prospects we’ve seen in several years, but I have him at No. 2 right now,” Tebow said. “He’s had a great season, but just a couple of inconsistencies is why I dropped him down to No. 2. Yes, people might think I’m biased because this kid is from Jacksonville, but he has been playing unbelievable this year. His name is Mac Jones. That’s why he is No. 1. Mac Jones has done everything you want to see out of a quarterback from Alabama. He’s made good decisions. He’s been able to get it to the playmakers. Why he’s No. 1? Down the field, it is pinpoint accuracy that no one else has shown this year in college football.”

Lawrence is out this week against Boston College due to a positive COVID-19 test. Can Jones continue to play like a Heisman frontrunner?

He’ll have a tough test against Mississippi State’s stout defense on Saturday night.
