Senior Day wasn’t the only reason it was an emotional day for Alabama defensive back Hootie Jones.

His mother, Jessica Carr, who is battling stage 4 lymphoma, made it to her first game of the season.

After the game, Jones told reporters what it was like for her to be there.

“I was happy to see her,” he said, according to a video from AL.com. “She’s just happy to see me play. I was very thankful for going out there and giving her something to see … and thank her for being here.”

Jones made an interception early in the second quarter against Mercer as Alabama won 56-0.

A GoFundMe account is setup to support Carr, who is a mother of four who has worked as family therapist.

“Cancer is not a contender in the SEC and wears no colors to show it’s loyalty,” the page description says. “So no matter who you root for on Saturdays in the fall, please take a minute to put those fierce loyalties aside and help a woman, mother and fighter continue her life with a little less stress of a financial burden.”

In August, AL.com reported that Carr also attended the graduation ceremony where Jones received a diploma.
