Alabama is off to a strong start in Oklahoma City.

The No. 3 seed Crimson Tide is advancing to the winner’s bracket in the Women’s College World Series after a 5-1 win over Arizona. Star pitcher Montana Fouts turned in another gem, matching a career-high 16 strikeouts in the effort. Fouts took a shutout into the seventh inning. The Wildcats scored one on a solo homer but Fouts managed to record the final outs and secure the victory. Fouts did not issue any walks getting the win.

Alabama got three of its five runs via the long ball. Bailey Hemphill hit a solo shot in the third inning, extending UA’s lead to 2-0. In the bottom of the sixth, Abby Doerr provided some insurance with a two-run homer, making it 5-0 heading into the final inning.

Johnson and Morgan picked up the other Bama RBIs. On Friday, Alabama will play the winner of Thursday night’s UCLA-Florida State game.
