Auburn remained No. 1 in the AP Top 25 poll which came out on Monday, and sophomore guard Wendell Green Jr. was named SEC Player of the Week, the SEC announced on Monday.
The poll was largely similar to last week, although teams in the top 10 shuffled positions. Kentucky remained at No. 5, and Tennessee jumped to No. 19 from No. 22. Arkansas fell into the receiving votes category, and LSU dropped out of the poll.
The rest of the top 10 shifted behind Auburn and No. 2 Gonzaga. Purdue moved up one spot to No. 3 and Arizona moved from No. 7 to No. 4. Houston remained at No. 6, as Duke jumped 2 spots to No. 7. Kansas moved up 2 spots to No. 8, and Texas Tech landed at No. 9 from No. 14. Baylor slipped from No. 8 to No. 10.
Green Jr. led No. 1-ranked Auburn to another 2-0 week in SEC play with series sweeps over rival Alabama, 100-81, on Feb. 1 and Georgia, 74-72, on Feb. 5. It marked the first time to sweep both schools since the 1966-67 season.
For the week, Green Jr. averaged a team-leading 21 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game against the Crimson Tide and Bulldogs combined. Green Jr. also shot 38.2 percent from the field and went 11-for-12 from the charity stripe. The Tigers are off to their second best start in program history at 22-1 overall and currently on a nation-leading 19-game win streak.
