Kerryon Johnson will reportedly be looking for a new opportunity in the NFL.

The Detroit Lions are waiving the former Auburn running back, according to a source of NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.

The Lions selected Johnson in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft with pick No. 43. In three seasons, he played in 34 games, recorded 283 carries for 1,225 yards and 8 touchdowns. Pro Football Talk’s Michael David Smith, points out that new Lions general manager Brad Holmes is looking to reshape the roster he inherited from former GM Bob Quinn.

Waiving Johnson comes after the Lions selected Jermar Jefferson in the seventh round of the 2021 draft and added Jamaal Williams via free agency. Former Georgia standout D’Andre Swift is expected to be the team’s RB1 this fall. Detroit selected Swift with the No. 35 pick in 2020.

We’ll see if Johnson is claimed on waivers or hits free agency.
