Former Auburn pitcher Casey Mize makes Detroit Tigers history in MLB debut
Former Auburn RHP Casey Mize took the mound for the Detroit Tigers against the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday night, making his Major League debut.
Mize was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft, and he quickly through the Tigers’ minor-league system.
In his debut on Wednesday, he made Tigers history, becoming the first Detroit pitcher to strike out 7 batters and issue 0 walks in his debut. He is the first MLB pitcher to put up numbers like that since Washington Nationals star Stephen Strasburg back in 2010:
Last MLB pitcher to make his debut and strikeout 7-or-more batters without issuing a walk was Washington's Stephen Strasburg on June 8, 2010 vs. Pittsburgh. https://t.co/3sktNa78Aj

Here’s another strikeout on an incredible splitter:
Ridiculous.
Casey Mize should have to call out "Splitter!" Greinke-Style. pic.twitter.com/Z12RQIXWsd

It’s still early, but if Mize continues to throw like that, he has a bright future in Detroit and in Major League Baseball, in general.
The White Sox and Tigers are currently tied 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning.
