After Auburn’s narrow loss to Ole Miss over the weekend, Hugh Freeze clarified his play-calling plans and detailed some possible changes coming at the quarterback position.

Auburn’s offense was slow on Saturday, amassing just 275 yards on the game. Freeze said on Monday that offensive coordinator Phillip Montgomery is the primary play caller, but Freeze assists occasionally.

Freeze mentioned that he mostly assists with play calling in the redzone, though the Tigers don’t find themselves there very often.

Freeze knows Auburn has much to fix on the offensive side of the ball. While the Tigers look solid in some areas, on offense they have been completely lackluster.

“I’m not content with anything offensively,” Freeze said in his press conference Monday.

One of the biggest questions Auburn has faced this season is at the quarterback position. The Tigers trade off between Robby Ashford, who is more of a run specialist, and Payton Thorne, who is primarily used for passing plays.

Freeze stood by that Auburn still has faith in keeping Ashford in the rotation.

“I’ve said from Day 1 that Robby has a place, and is his place every down?” Freeze said. “We’ll see this week.”
