Former Georgia WR Demetris Robertson crossed rivalry lines this offseason, transferring from the Bulldogs’ program to Auburn.

Now, he’ll try to carve out a role for himself in new Auburn coach Bryan Harsin’s offense. The Tigers need a go-to receiver, so Robertson could be a good fit.

On Tuesday during SEC Media Days, Georgia coach Kirby Smart had nothing but nice things to say about Robertson as he heads to The Plains (via AL.com):

“D-Rob is a tremendous young man,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said Tuesday at SEC Media Days. “… I’m so excited for D-Rob because he’s a great young man. This young man did everything the right way. He’s got a lot of speed. He’s a vertical threat. I know (Auburn offensive coordinator Mike) Bobo and those guys at Auburn are excited to get him.”

Georgia QB JT Daniels didn’t get to work much on the field with Robertson, but he also lauded the former Bulldog receiver:

“(Robertson is) a good friend of mine and a great player,” Georgia quarterback JT Daniels said. “I can’t say enough good about D-Rob. Since he’s been here, he and I have been good friends and really close. He’s a good person, a great player…. I don’t think anybody at Georgia will tell you anything other than we wish the best for him.”

It sounds like Robertson was a popular guy in the Georgia locker room, but things just didn’t work out for him on the field. Now, we’ll see if he can become a star and live up to his 5-star high-school rating at Auburn this fall.
