The New Orleans Saints made some big changes to their training-camp roster on Saturday, signing five players and releasing five others.
Among the five players released were two former Auburn defenders — S Robenson Therezie and DT Devaroe Lawrence.
According to NewOrleansSaints.com, coach Sean Payton said the large roster turnover is all about finding the right 53 guys to head into the regular season with:
“Periodically we’ll bring in a large group of players to work out,” he said. “We’re early enough in camp to see that these guys have done some good things on film and they had good grades on them. We wanted to look at them. It wasn’t one thing, but overall, we thought that the workouts were good and it’s early enough in camp where we have a chance to evaluate them.”
Therezie signed with the Atlanta Falcons after going unselected in the 2015 NFL Draft. He was claimed by the Saints off waivers in December.
Lawrence signed with New Orleans this offseason after going undrafted in the 2017 NFL Draft.
