Deion Sanders in the Big 12? That may be a scenario that is currently materializing, per a recent report.

Drew Davison of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram was told by a source that Sanders is “in the mix” to become the next head coach at TCU. However, the source also noted to Davison that it’s not a guarantee that Sanders will land the job or that he is even the “leading candidate at this point.”

TCU is currently conducting a search to find a new head coach after parting ways with Gary Patterson, who had been at the helm since 2001, before he and the program mutually agreed to split ties on Oct. 31.

Sanders is currently in his second season as the head coach at Jackson State. After going 4-3 with the Tigers in 2020, he’s led them to an 8-1 start this season.

If Sanders was hired by TCU, it wouldn’t be the first time he’d be coaching in Texas. The Pro Football Hall of Famer served as the offensive coordinator at Trinity Christian School in Cedar Hill, Texas, before he was hired by Jackson State.

It’s not a surprise that Sanders has been featured in coaching rumors, considering how well Jackson State has been playing and with the star power that “Coach Prime” has. It may only be a matter of time before he gets hired for a bigger job, whether that ends up being at TCU or elsewhere.
