ESPN's Peter Burns predicts final CFP Top 4
ESPN’s Peter Burns on Saturday predicted what the College Football Playoff field would ultimately look like.
It’s Rivalry Week, and while several important games are in the rearview mirror, there’s still a number of them to go. Chief among them is Michigan-Ohio State in Ann Arbor.
Burns, on X, gave his prediction of how the Top 4 will ultimately shake out. As you can see, he has Georgia at No. 1, followed by Michigan, Oregon, and Texas:
Here’s the @CFBPlayoff that I think we are going to see…
1) Georgia
2) Michigan
3) Oregon
4) Texas— Peter Burns (@PeterBurnsESPN) November 25, 2023
Both Georgia and Michigan have straightforward paths to the Playoff. What about Oregon and Texas?
No. 6 Oregon blew out No. 16 Oregon State 31-7 on Friday while No. 7 Texas was too much for Texas Tech, 57-7. Both would need to leapfrog No. 4 Washington and No. 5 Florida State; the Seminoles are without Jordan Travis, so that changes things as they look to defeat Florida and then take the ACC Championship Game against No. 10 Louisville. With that in mind, a couple of convincing wins by FSU minus Travis might make it a little bit more difficult for Texas to move into the Top 4, even if it wins the Big 12 Championship.
Meanwhile, a win by Oregon against Washington in the Pac-12 Championship Game might be enough to secure its passage into the CFP, depending on what happens with Florida State.
