Taking nothing away from Justin Wilcox and the Cal defense, Ole Miss' line was clearly out of sync due to losing their center. After about the 10th offsides penalty, it was obvious that the line was going to have to simply wait for the ball to be snapped. This prevents firing off of the ball and allows the defense to control the line. Good football teams overcome adversity like this. I would think that the coaching staff would have ran more traps, bubble screens, maybe some end-arounds to keep their line on their heels and snapped the ball on "set" (Yes, every time). Patterson was hit enough that he was rattled and for the first time that I've ever seen, unraveled a bit. He is the real deal and I think he has possibly the best receivers corps in the nation. He was also telegraphing his passes a bit, probably because he never had time for a 2nd or 3rd read. I was hoping for a win out there, but nothing to do but put your big boy pants on and go back to work. Cal is a better team than I thought (I thought it would be a shootout) and congrats to them.
If you rank teams based on how they are playing today, Ole Miss could be as high as 3. They've already proven that they can beat or lose to anyone in the country but they seem to have figured some things out. If you watched the bowls, you have to believe UT is a top 10 team. Next year is going to be a fun year in the SEC. It appears that the stories of their demise were indeed greatly exaggerated.
