Butler hasn't needed an exemption to transfer. His first transfer was from juco to Auburn, which doesn't count towards the transfer rule. His transfer from Auburn to Liberty is the one time transfer. The last 2 schools, Liberty and Michigan State, had head coaching changes, which allow players to transfer without penalty.
It's time to stop blaming Harsin for all the failures. Thorne was hand picked by Freeze, as was 4/5 the offensive line and over HALF this roster. Ole Miss landed 2 transfers to back up their starter who are better qbs than Thorne or Ashford. This is a poorly coached offense right now. For the love of God, please stop the qb shuffle. Live and die with Thorne or even Geriner but please stop playing Ashford. He's been a qb all his life and still can't throw anything but wild fastballs, plus his decision making is atrocious. Harsin was there for 22 months, with his first class recruited mostly by Gus and the last mostly by Freeze. As bad as Harsin was, this offense looks just as pathetic. Blame Feeze.
You must have a head injury.
Odd to brag about that. Seriously, you missed the winner and Cal's point total by a mile, but you "almost" got AU's score?? I'm sure you've "almost" won the lottery several times, if you'd only gotten the other 6 numbers right.
This offense will continue to struggle until Freeze realized Ashford can't hit the side of a barn throwing. Alternating qb's only works to prevent the offense getting into any type rhythm. Freeze has to play Ashford some because the kid already said he nearly quit when he lost the starting job. Ashford felt entitled to the job due to starting last year.... for a TERRIBLE team. He carries himself with the worst body language I've ever seen from a high school player, much less a college QB. Question: how can a guy play qb all his life and still not be able to throw an accurate pass??
There are questions at several position groups with this Auburn team. The O-line, cornerbacks, tight ends, special teams and running backs are solid to good for an SEC team. The defense doesn't appear to have any real playmakers except hopefully McLeod, and both safety spots are big question marks, to me. Quarterback and Wide receiver, however have to be far and away the biggest question marks. Best case scenario: Thorne wins the job, the running backs stay healthy, 2 playmakers stand out at receiver and in the front 7, while Puckett or Simpson become a ball hawk. With all that, 9 wins is possible. My gut tells me 8-4 if they stay healthy. Momentum is building down there. In Auburn, the first year magic can take a team a long way. Dye and Tubby cleaned house their first year, but Bowden, Chizik, and Malzahn all blew away expectstions.
What a suprise finebaum wants Gus gone. He's Saban's biggest fan, and Gus is a real threat to Tiny Nick. Gus is a very good coach, considering he has to recruit against the dirtiest program in history inside his own state. When both teams have equal talent, Nick gets outcoached every time. See 2010, 2013, 2017. Gus took a 3-9 team & coached it to a 12-2 record his first year at AU. In Saban's 1st year at Bama, he took a 6-6 team and coached them to a 6-6 record. Then the checkbook came out....
Smart move to "pass" on Stidham. He wore A&M out on your turf. And Sumlin did NOT pass on Stidham. Stidham was coming to AU and A&M was never an option. Stidham was at Auburn all last fall watching practice with Malzahn. It was no secret he was coming by Sept '16. Start talking when y'all win something. Anything. First class attitude with a second class history. Michigan of the south.
Joe Cox is no football expert. This list is a joke. How can South Carolina have the 5th best depth chart??? Bentley made a handful of starts, and thr backup may NOT even continue to play football. Auburn has one of best depth charts in the league. Sean White is injury prone and limited, but he did lead the league in completion pctg and has 2 years experience as a starter, and he will be thr back-up to Stidham (who also had success as a starter). There is also talent and experience behind them. No other SEC team has a backup with any experience except LSU, and LSU should be ranked higher as well based on ranking the depth chart. This isn't a ranking of the best starting qb. If it were, the list is still terrible. Hurts from Bama had a good year but isn't a great passer and his success comes from being surrounded by talent around him, and his backup will be a true freshman. And MSU has a backup who will redshirt if possible!!! Seriously??!??! The best qb depth chart belongs to Auburn, hands down, followed by LSU. As for the best starters at qb, my list would look very different from Joe Cox's list. 1) Austin Allen, Ark 2) Jacob Eason ,UGa 3) Drew Lock, Missou 4) Jalen Hurts, UA 5) Nick Fitzgerald, MSU 6) Jarrett Stidham, AU 7) Shea Patterson, UM 8) Jake Bentley, SC 9) Danny Etling, LSU 10) Luke Del Rio, UF 11) Stephen Johnson, UK 12) Jake Hubenak, TA&M 13) Kyle Shurmur, Vandy 14) Quinten Dormandy, UT. My list is based on what I have seen myself, not based on potential or type of offense. Some of these guys have a ton of potential and some have offenses geared to put up big numbers. Eason, Patterson, Stidham, Bentley and Lock are all young and could explode into stardom. Hurts and Fitzgerald are big, sturdy runners who can dominate on the ground but aren't polished passers. These are merely my opinions. I doubt many will agree with my list. But I do believe my list is far more accurate than the "professional" who wrote this article. I have no clue what criteria he used.
The last was Ronny Daniels in '99. Darvin Adams was 3 yards short once and about 40 short of 1,000 another season. Under Malzahn, AU has regularly had a receiver over 800 yrd per season. Considering the many drops by Sammie Coates, Duke Williams and Ricardo Louis, AU should've had a 1,000 yard receiver in either '13 or '14 if not both. Let's pray AU finds a receiver with speed AND hands this time.
