Yeah actually I can get behind this if this is what the future is going to look like. I think the thing I hate the most in football is seeing rematches when the schedule is so short to begin with and there are so many potential teams out there to play. This format should completely avoid rematches outside of conference championships.
Oh I completely understand where you're coming from and agree with you that the proposal is flawed. Alabama and Georgia are clearly the two best teams this year. I was merely arguing that allowing them to play in the finals is not great for non-SEC schools, and perhaps bad for college football as a whole. To make an argument with a straight face, you would have to be arguing for the two most deserving teams as opposed to the two best teams. Alabama and Michigan won their conferences after all... and I distinctly recall another Georgia fan complaining to me that Alabama had no business being in the 2017-18 playoffs for that very reason. He seems to have abandoned that position this year though for some reason :)
SEC bias is still as strong and excessive as ever. The majority of the conference is just as flawed and beatable as the rest of the country. SEC 5-7 in bowls, 9-6 vs P5 in regular season doesn't scream unbeatable super conference. That said, this isn't the year to be arguing against it. The 2 best teams this year are in the finals and there wasn't a reasonable argument to keep either of them out of the playoffs. Everyone else had 2+ losses or a very unimpressive resume. If non-SEC fans were smart, (and obviously this wont happen) the way to start breaking up the SEC dominance is to get rid of the playoffs, go back to a 2-team BCS final, and cap the number of conference participants at 1 so that there would always be a non-SEC team in the final. All playoff expansion is doing is devaluing regular season upsets and ensuring the Haves will always make the playoffs. We're ruining what makes college football so special and getting more and more like the NFL which has a completely boring and almost unwatchable regular season.
