Agreed. I have been saying his about Jimbo for years—living in FL we followed him closely. He captured lighting in a bottle with Jameis but IMO will never be able to replicate his FSU success. Much tougher conference/schedule, poor game day coaching, consistent boneheaded decisions and poor clock management.
This could go south quick and start looking like Tennessee’s search 3 years ago. As an outsider, the problem I see at Auburn is a group of overly involved boosters who call the shots. If I’m a coach, I have no interest in that set up. It’s dysfunctional and historically hasn’t worked well, which is why Auburn burns thru good coaches without great, sustained success.
Did you miss the taunting dance he did multiple times? He was jerking his head to draw our guys offsides—did it multiple times during the game, followed up with his little dance routine. Surprised it was never called as it’s against the rules. He’s done it all season—I’ve seen it against LSU and UGA. Even announcers were commenting on it. Hate to see anyone get hurt but he was being an a$$—karma took care of him. Typical of a former Nole, though.
About what I would expect from Auburn. Spend $21m to get rid of Malzahn, only to hire a career assistant whose one short stint as a HBC led to an abysmal record.
OK, CoronaBro. A Spring season wouldn't have worked for umpteen reasons. Yes, this have been some ups-and-downs, but it is what it is. Better IMO to have the season, even with its challenges, than not.
Tells you how bad that UNC team that lost to the Noles. Talk about (at the time) over-rated.
Agreed. Another Gator player posted something to the effect of, "yeah, there's a pandemic happening right now worldwide, but where I'm from, it's a pandemic every day. I need another year to play, football is how I'm going to take care of my family." Breaks my heart. I have to believe a lot of this is political (red vs. blue states); we see that in the conferences that have pulled the plug this morning (B10 and PAC). I also have to believe most of these athletes will be better off/at less risk in collegiate health/training environments, where there is not only top-notch healthcare and frequent testing, but more accountability (i.e. 'peer pressure' to follow the rules, stay out of trouble, practice social distancing/don't put yourself in environments that up your risk, etc)
