Are these articles opinion pieces or more straight-forward journalism? I think that's the real salient point here. If they are opinion pieces, then Crist can say what he wants. If not, loaded terms such as "Bible-thumper" seem to extend beyond the scope of the article. In any case, I agree with both sides. Yes, Freeze can be called a hypocrite, but yes it is our Christian duty not to judge. I for one hope that his family is okay and that the Ole Miss program can survive the fallout. A competitive SEC makes for better football, after all. As for Freeze, he made bad decisions, but so does everyone. I don't think anything of him personally, only that his handling of the Ole Miss program was quite irresponsible.
