"Only a borderline defensive pass interference call..." What? Did Christopher Smith even watch the play? I think not. NEither that, or he's as blind as Gary Danielson and Verne Lundquist when it comes to replay footage. That was one of the most obvious defensive pass interference calls Ever made. It's called obstructing a receiver from returning to a ball, and Mills just flat out tackled him... Nothing "borderline" about Mr. "Journalist."
@auburnmizzou Thank you for further proving my point by quoting a blatant, notorious, nefarious, and vile poet. I think I'd rather look to better examples by which to gauge my philosophical points than Mr. Bukowski... Also, there's a huge difference between just drinking alcohol socially, in a recreational manner, etc., and abusing it to the point of appearing on your coach's show obviously inebriated... That sets a really bad example to your squad and those who follow it.
@TheBeardo: Apparently, you didn't read all the comments. I've only called into question those questioning my premise. Kind of comes with the territory. Questioning my premise doesn't make it any less valid or relevant. I'll stand by that. As for the news conference, I agree that you are most likely right in your assumptions. So why is it newsworthy? What coach in his right mind would ever respond otherwise? What would be newsworthy is if a public figure with such stature responded to the contrary. Accordingly though, kudos to Coach Spurrier. He has a good policy on domestic violence. His policy on abuse of alcohol and drugs is questionable though. Oh, and by the way, those chemicals are quite often a contributing factor to incidents of domestic violence. . .
Thank you "auburnmizzou" for your wonderful, eloquent, yet grammatically-incorrect statement. If I could even begin to piece together what you are trying to get at, I would respond accordingly. As for the rest of you "relevancy naysayers," the question of relevancy isn't for me to answer--it's inherent. It goes to credibility. So, why don't one, or more, of you please explain how Spurrier's blatant alcoholism isn't relevant to his credibility?
Well, Mr. Cock, given your incredible ability to assess relevancy and credibility, I don't think I have much to worry about. I'm really glad you support your drunken coach.
Exactly, then you get the hard evidence. There's hard evidence in the Ray Rice case: he's on video knocking his fiance out. In the Jameis Winston controversy, there were only allegations of foul play. Investigation dispelled the allegations... No comparison. Good premise; bad example.
Anyway, didn't equate them. Simply raised the question of a coach being drunk on the job...
There's a HUGE difference between allegations and hard evidence...
Either way, Spurrier is just the first of many opportunists that will berth from this controversy. . . What are you supposed to say when asked about it? "Well, I think I'd let him continue to play until they work things out..." Yeah right.
What about a policy for coaches that imbibe on the job? http://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/2013/steve-spurrier-coachs-show/
