I'll do y'alls job for ya -- 10 games from 2011-12 and from 2013-14 for Carolina.
If we're talking alternates, i'd be inclined to agree with you. Those limestone brick helmets a few years ago were a eyesores. But aside from the oversized collar, I think their standard uniforms look pretty sharp. But let's not let UT off the hook -- those gray and black alts they've insisted on wearing every year are terrible.
Not to be too much of a Carolina homer here, but I don't see how Muschamp can be any worse than Kirby Smart -- I would even go as far as to say he's probably a slightly better hire. We know he can recruit, but Bartoo completely underplays his ability to coach a defense. Every one of his Florida defenses were among the best in the nation while he was there, and don't forget, he went 11-2 his second year after having to clean up the mess that Urban Meyer left behind. If he's figured out how to let Kurt Roper run the offense, I don't see a reason he can't recover a la Rich Rodriguez. And the whole 7-win average thing for Spurrier is BS. The first five years of his tenure was building a program, and the middle 4 he averaged more than 10 wins. He should have hung up the headset after the 2014 season, but it's not like he is a case study for why no one can win at SC.
Don't be too hard on Charlie Strong. He did an incredible job at Louisville. The fact that he's struggling at Texas after 2 years probably says as much or more about Mack Brown's last few years there as it does about Strong's ability to build a program. Also, Texas' AD sounded like a nightmare.
Yeah, but aside from college football being a completely different game when Richt was hired, they were a distant third in the conference in 2000 -- basically where Mizzou and South Carolina are now. Now as one of the top 3-4 programs in the best conference in football, they should be trying to get a Power 5 head coach, not a coordinator whose more likely to be the next Will Muschamp than he is to be the next Mark Dantonio. Why not Gary Patterson or Kyle Whittingham? (disclaimer, I'm a Carolina fan terrified that UGa just destroyed the Gamecocks' coaching search)
But who would LSU bring in? Jimbo isn't going to come unless he's running from his wife because FSU is a better job than LSU. And Southern Cal is a better program that is going to take whatever coach LSU thinks it's going to get, especially if they axe a legend for losing three games. Les Miles won a title, nearly won a second and looked very much like he was on his way to the playoff this year, even after the Bama loss. Arky was probably the second-best team in the SEC at the point they beat LSU, and Ole Miss was an early-season pick to win it all. It's not like all is lost. Get rid of Cameron and bring in a coordinator from the Big 12 and Les will be back to beating everybody but Bama in no time. Firing him, especially this yea, would be the dumbest thing of 2015 -- a year where Donald Trump is a leading presidential candidate.
Y'all UGa fans keep wanting to get rid of Richt, but take it from Nebraska fans -- going 9-4 or 10-3 every year and knowing that's what you'll get is a lot better than having some new guy in there and starting the season 2-4 with all four losses coming in the absolute most heartbreaking ways possible.
I doubt that will be a problem. Spurrier already makes $4 mil, which is good for 4th in the SEC (behind Saban, Sumlin and Les). So even if he doesn't give a raise, it'll be one of the highest salaries in the conference and in the top 20 nationally. Also, when Ray Tanner hired Frank Martin, he outpaid K-State and payed for his buyout. And there's the whole $1.5 million they're paying for 2 crappy D coordinators. Money won't be an issue.
You mean recruit a top prospect's big brother in hopes that little bro will sign, then use the success of signing to the nation's top recruit to entice other top-tier players to come to your school with the promise of early playing time for schemes that are fun to play on both sides of the ball? Yeah, we should do that.
Spurrier has NEVER been that coach though, and it's hard to imagine him becoming that at 70. And aside from that, this narrative is a little busted -- we've NEVER out-recruited the rest of the SEC -- even through the 11-2 years and the SEC East title. If you go back through our best players of the Spurrier erra, only Clowney and Lattimore were 5-star locks. Stephon Gilmore was a high 4-star, but the rest were 3 or 4 stars. Captain Munnerlyn was a 2-star and Sidney Rice was a low 3. I think the bigger thing is the evaluation of talent by coaches and their ability to develop that talent. Which is why losing Shane Beamer, Brad Lawing (especially him -- there's a reason Clowney didn't do so well his junior year) and maybe Ellis Johnson hurt way more than having middling SEC recruiting rankings.
And Carolina beat ECU by 10 that year, then went on to beat some overrated school in Georgia the next week. What's your point?
There's a Tin Roof in Columbia, too. Also a better selection than Pavlovs.
