"It is best. Most deserving is not anything in the committee's lexicon. They are to rank the best teams in order." - Bill Hancock, CFP Executive Director According to the CFP's own directive, Best matters above all else, and Most Deserving is not even a consideration. Now do you think any serious sports analyst or betting expert (people whose career and financial wellbeing depend on making correct picks) would favor Michigan, Washington, Texas, or Alabama over Georgia? You would be laughed out of the room and possibly fired if you were in sports analysis or handicapping and said that Georgia is not Better than any of the four playoff teams.
But isn't it the CFP selection committee's responsibility to select the 4 Best Teams for the playoff? They clearly failed in that responsibility.
Nickname idea if this rivalry were to resume as an annual matchup: "Just Business"
Got to correct a few things here. Some development may have occurred at junior college after Stetson left UGA as a walk-on, but his development from backup QB to national champion occurred at UGA. He returned to UGA as a scholarship player in 2019 and was the backup to Fromm. Won the starting job near the beginning of the 2020 season but lost it to JT Daniels later in the year. THEN a few games into the 2021 season, he beat out all the other scholarship QBs to regain the starter position.
Watson and Lawrence both became starters as true freshmen. I think last year, as bad as Uiagalelei was, Clemson just didn't have anyone better on the roster. This year they have a very talented backup plan - Klubnik, 5*, 2022 top QB recruit in the country.
Every coach has these moments. It would've sounded a lot better if Saban said "We lost the national championship game basically because we had 3 corners out... and because I didn't coach well enough." Feels nice to have the rare experience of hearing Bama try to justify a loss, with UGA on the other side of it
Some Gator fans posting tonight are keeping it classy... And some are not
Wow.... This comment is hilarious and extremely enjoyable to read!!
After a loss, it's easy to fall into the trap of believing everything that happened in one game will continue to happen in every game moving forward. If UGA and Bama meet again for the national championship, I like the chances of the Dawgs playing like they have for 12 out of 13 games, same for the Tide.
ImperialMajesty - At the moment, which programs would you say are likely to consistently win national championships (other than Alabama and Clemson)?
Agree completely. Also a lot of magic man & el diablo before the playoff selections are made.
