That’s a product of the system, not the players. Those that adapt and evolve will win. That’s a problem for the NCAA, Conferences, and the schools to figure out. Billy Booster can pull his money out, and fans can opt out of season tickets. If that happens it forces change. That’s a discussion for another day. The reality is, those that want an expanded playoff should want more players to opt of non-playoff bowls. At some point Cheez-Its is going to say hey we’re not going to offer up $10 mil to headline blowouts and lack of marquee players and viewers leaving for good with 10 minutes left in the third. How do you think that conversation is going today at Cheez-It hq? Think they’re ready to pony up again? The sponsors will look to spend their money on games that matter; that matters to them too.
Exactly. Hilarious to see the comments made by those with no real skin in the game other than “school spirit.” It’s a business decision for these young men, and it’s an example of risk aversion. College football is big business with high risk. Doesn’t matter the frequency or probability of injury, the fact is the risk is still there. And for a very select few, they are at the doorstep of a rare and selective opportunity. And I’m sorry if that affects your fandom, but that’s your problem. After three, four, or five years of commitment to the school, the school has made their money off the player and the player has benefited from the school. How much money you think these young men made UF through exposure and awareness due to a pretty good run? Quite a bit. A has-been series of exhibition games that’s morphed into branded money grabs may be a risk that some think is not wise, others may need it. The letting down teammates arguments is weak as hell too. Talk to those in the locker room, not chat rooms. You want what’s best for your brothers, and you support their decision. We always preach next man up and opportunity right? Works both ways but it ain’t quitting unless you’re spinning. In closing, quit being fanboys. Whether they play or not, they’ve earned the right to make the decision.
