Trying to grow fescue in Columbia is like trying to grow apples in south Florida. You're better off growing low maintenance grasses like St. Augustine and Zoysia, that are highly drought resistant, here in SC. Unless of course you like a very high maintenance lawn that's more expensive to maintain. I love mowing my Zoysia lawn every 2-3 weeks in the summer when neighbors with fescue are mowing theirs weekly. Oh and mine doesn't die when it gets hot and dry, it just quits growing. No watering, very little fertilizer needed, less mowing, what more could a homeowner ask for. If you must have green grass in the winter, when everything else is dormant anyway, you can now get your grass painted green.
Please tell me where Spurrier made lite of DeShaun's injury??? He simply stated a fact, that South Carolina will have a better chance to win with DW out. If anything, that ought to be taken as a compliment to how talented DW is. Spurrier understands what injuries are like because he had to endure them as a player himself. Hate Spurrier as you may but this is not an example of him being arrogant or inappropriate as much as you'd like to believe.
"Auburn used its bye week to make changes defensively, in hopes to generate a more productive pass rush." Generating a good pass rush against the Gamecock OL shouldn't require any changes by the Auburn DL. Our OL has been very poor providing pass protection at times this season. Case in point, we allowed 4 sacks to Furman! If Spurrier is smart he'll choose to run the ball about 80% of the time Saturday night.
Coach Lorenzo Ward will likely get 1 more season to prove himself. Hopefully some very good incoming talent will help, but overall the Gamecock defense will still be fairly young in 2015, especially if 1-2 true freshman end up starting. The staggering drop in our defensive performance/statistics from years past has been hard to stomach to say the least.
1. Losing Clowney, Quarles, Hampton and Sutton were simply too much for us to overcome on defense. Running the 3-4 versus the 4-2-5 has made matters worse because a very young defense has had to learn a totally new scheme. 2. Gamecock fans have become accustomed to fairly good defenses for the most part since Spurrier arrived. In 10 years his defense has won far more games than the offense. 3. Dylan Thompson continues to make mistakes that a 5th year senior shouldn't. He gets rattled far too easily and his overall mechanics are poor for an SEC QB. His completion percentage is mediocre as a result. 4. All South Carolina had to do to beat Mizzou and KY is run the ball in their final possessions. Mike Davis was averaging 8 yards a carry, yet never got another touch after the 8:00 minute mark in the 4th quarter! Spurrier needs to run the ball 3 out of every 4 plays on average from here on out. For some reason Spurrier has yet to figure this out. 5. UGA will win an SEC East that is as weak overall as I can remember. They should be favored in all of their remaining Eastern matchups which include KY, MO and UF. 6. A western SEC team should easily win the SEC championship. I'd pick either Auburn or Mississippi State to win it all at this point.
The OL injuries have taken there toll but South Carolina still has enough talent to be able to field a solid unit. DT is a very average QB who isn't likely to make it to the next level. He gets easily rattled and continues to overthrow wide open receivers far too much for a 5th year senior. DT is a great kid but he'll never be a QB who completes 70%+ of his passes. I doubt the Gamecocks will give another QB a chance but come next year will have no one who can start with any experience whatsoever. If this year is a rebuilding year I'm not sure what next year will be considered.
Despite the Ole Miss comments I expect Bama to roll again this year in Oxford. I'll take Bama to cover the spread and quiet the trash talkers once again. Ya think people would learn from their past mistakes.
Welcome aboard Zack! First Pellage on Friday and now Bailey! You can never have 2 many talented OL!!
"The Missouri coaching staff could out coach Spurrier’s and has, but the SCGCs staff have made the difference in 2012 and 2013." I assume you're referring to the bowl game that you all won against us a few years a go. Otherwise I don't believe Spurrier has ever been outcoached by a Missouri team. Regardless, I look forward to watching the rematch, hopefully in person, this season.
Clemson has recruited extremely well over the course of the past 10 years, so this article doesn't really mean much to be honest. Their class rankings have been very good despite players they may have missed on. On the other hand I find it truly entertaining that this article was able to bait and catch some of the brightest and hateful tiger trolls out there. Like this little quote for example, "Clemson also played terrible that night, just like they did in Columbia. The difference was that FSU was much, much better than Clemson across the board, and SCAR was not. Even with Clemson committing 6 turnovers, the Clemson/South Carolina game was tied in the 4th quarter. Of course no credit can be given to the Gamecock team that beat the tigers and forced several of the aforementioned 6 turnovers. No, the Gamecock team just had 1 player carry them through that night and outplay everyone else. If Clemson would've done this, if they could've done that, yada..yada...yada... Ifs and buts don't win games and of course giving credit where credit is due shows class, which is clearly lacking from this mad little tiger fan!
Hopefully he'll sign with South Carolina. I'm not sure how UT could even make room for another commitment at this point.
The timing of his departure was bad enough, but the way he's handled the recruiting situation is simply rotten in my opinion. Legal it may be, but it's not ethical. I didn't like Pedophile State before and have even more reason not to like them now.
For recruiting it couldn't have possibly come at a worse time. It'll be very interested to see who they end up replacing him with.
Seeing that UF will sign 4-5 CBs, it's not that surprising. Lammons had South Carolina high on his list before he committed to the gators. With Ahmad Christian transferring to pursue baseball this comes as little surprise. Both CB spots are going to be wide open this year.
Can't wait to see what Shaq can do next season!
Sawyer will likely play as a true Freshman. Great pickup!
Bentley is a system QB, much like Justin Worley, who's been a bust. There's a reason that neither South Carolina or Clemson offered him, even though he resided in their backyard.
