I understand that it is painful to accept your arch enemy as the #1 ranked team in the country, though you do acknowledge they are really good. I can also understand your hesitation to accept it, based on your allegiance. However, accepting your conclusions based on the mental gymnastics you have to employ to affirm it, reeks of fan jealousy. Do I truly believe TN is the most talented team in the country? No, but only two that I have watched played are potentially more deserving based on talent alone. But ranking the #1 team halfway through the season is not who voters believe is the most talented. It is a combination of record, team performance, quality wins (ranked opponents) and earnings. But since your argument is based solely on rank teams played and you reference that TN has only played two such teams, let's compare the top 10. Only 5 teams in the top 10 have played more ranked teams. Duke 5, Kansas 5, Mich 3 and Gonzaga 3, Virginia 3. Of those 5, all but two have twice as many losses ( Mich, who just lost to an unranked team and Virginia who today lost to Duke having the same number of losses) Duke has also lost to an unranked team. Do you believe that Virginia (3 ranked teams) and Duke ( 5 ranked teams) are more deserving When one has twice as many losses? But let's look at the remainder of the 10 teams you believe are just as deserving if not more so, of the top ranking. V Tech has played 0 ranked teams as has Nevada (0). Mich.State and Texas Tech, have played 2, the same as TN. I suppose one could make a case for Virginia but can you bump them up 3 spots to #1 after losing to the current # who this week was beaten by an unranked team? Duke is not deserving, though they may actually be the most talented after having two losses on 5 ranked teams played, one loss to an unranked team. Kansas? 5 ranked teams played, two losses, one to an unranked team. No matter how you slice it, TN right now is the only deserving team with 1 loss, quality wins, earnings (prior rank), and that loss being to a top 7 ranked team. Your logic is flawed because either way you have to ignore either total losses (some being to unrankes teams)/or prior ranking to make your case.
