SDS didn't mention it was "mutual", but we got it. Why else would someone without any other SEC offers and no announcement of a commit to a non-SEC school decommit?
Some people think Lane is interested in Jimbo’s job. Note that all his recent backhanded A&M compliments have been very positive about the players, College Station, and the facilities. What is glaringly missing is anything positive about A&M’s coaches. Some A&M fans have missed the distinction. Is this tweet meant to ingratiate him to those fans?
It seems like too much of this discussion is based on current circumstances. For instance, of course Ole Miss welcomed Kiffin with open arms. He was a successful Offense Coordinator at Alabama, and out-of-the-box, a successful head coach at FAU. Moreover, at the time Ole Miss was a dumpster fire. The NCAA had all but ended the football program and Matt Luke (Hugh Freeze’s successor) proved to be incompetent. Under those circumstances, what SEC university wouldn’t warmly welcome Kiffin? At the same time, Auburn’s problem isn’t that a coach can’t succeed there. From 1995 to the present, Auburn has had six head coaches (Bowden, Tuberville, Chizik, Malzahn, Steele, and Harsin) and won a national championship. Over the same period, Ole Miss has had seven head coaches (Tuberville, Cutcliffe, Orgeron, Nutt, Freeze, Luke, Kiffin) and never once made it to the SEC title game. Is it possible that Auburn’s problem is with recent infighting and weariness over competing (actually failing to compete) with the Tide? If so, within three years, this too shall pass.
As usual, the media is overreacting. Normally, it's syrupy sweet praise for Bama. But this time, it's hyped praise for Tennessee. But consider this. Had that game taken place anywhere other than Knoxville, might Tennessee have lost? What we've learned is that Tennessee is competitive with the best. Whether it is the best still seems doubtful.
When Matt Corral came, Ole Miss was in the middle of the Hugh Freeze sanctions and had the uninspiring (and in my opinion incompetent) Matt Luke as it’s head coach. Maybe Corral thinks that if he had attended a different school, he could have made it to the pros in three years.
"I think Ole Miss will struggle without Corral. He was the game changer there." REPLY: I root for Ole Miss but you're probably right. When Matt Corral was healthy, he was excellent. In fact, Ole Miss would have beaten Auburn with a healthy Matt Corral. That wouldn't have changed the Rebels' bowl destination (the Sugar Bowl), but Ole Miss would have at least won instead of getting beaten by Baylor.
Boy. That schedule does make him look stupid doesn’t it?
