The main way to beat the offense is for defensive tackles to blow up the offensive line, which is tough because they drive block when they're not cut blocking. Most defenders are used to 325-pound offensive linemen squatting and pushing with their hands, so dealing with a quick 280-pounder sticking a shoulder pad in your gut is something that takes some adjustment. The other way is to prevent the center and guards from getting to the second level and cutting off linebacker pursuit. Assignment discipline is somewhat overrated, because as soon as Johnson figures out who is assigned to which back, he will change the receiver and slotback blocking and take out the defender on the pitch man. That's when you get the big home runs.
