Cincinnati is being kept out because they don't bring in the money the big time programs do. People should understand that this is an invitational and not a playoff. The committee chooses teams based on the draw they create as much as what happens on the field. When people begin to realize this and accept the fact that unless your team is a big draw, you won't ever see a playoff game. What I would say to Bearcat fans is take solace in your big win at ND and a possible conference championship because that is your national championship.
And guess what? They EARNED it, on the field, as it should be.
I wonder if anyone stops to think that the key to the coaching success in the Saban tree is being three deep at every position. If you've seen the documentary with Saban and Belichick, Saban basically said that he liked coaching college because he wasn't bound by player contracts(guaranteed playing time). If a player wasn't playing like he wanted, he could just plug someone else in. Must be nice to have that luxury. Talent is a huge factor in college football. Bobby Bowden was once quoted as saying "it's not the X's and O's but the Jimmy's and Joe's" when asked about what it takes to win in college football.
What can the incoming OC learn from Sark? Do what Nick tells you to do. That's what.
Maybe one of the best offenses. The '95 Huskers still the most physically dominant teams on both sides of the ball I've ever seen.
You said a mouthful, "playoff selection". By definition this is an invitational. This gives the NCAA the means to control the narrative and select the teams that they believe will generate the most interest, and more importantly, the most money. IMHO, they should do away with the polls altogether, put everyone in a conference and let conference champs duke it out in a true playoff. It truly is becoming a bore with the same teams selected year after year to be in the "playoff".
Agreed. I don't think you can predict Ohio State's performance against Alabama by what they did in one game against Clemson. You have to look at the season as a whole. Plus, nobody gets up for the big game like the Tide. Depth will play a role as well. Bama by 137.
"When asked if the CFP would finish the initial 12-year deal that runs through the 2025 season, the P5 AD said, “We’d like to, but I’m not sure it’s feasible. We can’t keep selling the same thing over and over, year after year, and expect our fans to stay interested.” This quote speaks volumes. In my opinion, as college football fans, we've all been sold a bill of goods. First of all, let's call the CFP what it is-an invitational. It is by definition, you can't argue with that. If you're ok with that, then you really don't have an argument as to what teams are in. Expanding the "playoff" under the current situation will only bring more of the same. Until there is a true playoff, by this I mean putting every team in a conference and letting conference champs duke it out, it will always be open to argument. Major realignment of the conferences would be needed as well as mixing P5 and G5 teams in those conferences to make it fair. Under the current system, the teams that bring in the most viewers/money will always be invited, with the others on the outside looking in.
