The committee chooses teams based on the draw they create as much as what happens on the field. When people begin to realize this and accept the fact that unless your team is a big draw, you won't ever see a playoff game. This gives the NCAA the means to control the narrative and select the teams that they believe will generate the most interest, and more importantly, the most money. IMHO, they should do away with the polls altogether, put everyone in a conference and let conference champs duke it out in a true playoff. Until there is a true playoff, by this I mean putting every team in a conference and letting conference champs duke it out, it will always be open to argument. Major realignment of the conferences would be needed as well as mixing P5 and G5 teams in those conferences to make it fair. Under the current system, the teams that bring in the most viewers/money will always be invited, with the others on the outside looking in.
