There isn't a requirement for it to be a conference game.
LSU had merely one more win than the Hogs. Considering what the Razorbacks did to the Tigers on top of the way Arkansas finished the season, LSU's #25 ranking wi th out any consideration for Arkansas makes zero sense.
You can't be serious, Clark. I'm not arguing for Arkansas to be in the Top 25, but to put LSU at #25 and ignore that they were dismantled by the Hogs just four games before the end of the year is unfatommable. On top of what they did to LSU, Arkansas crushed 2 of their final 3 opponents, including Ole Miss and Texas. Again, I'm not necesarily arguing for Arkansas to be ranked, but I am saying is utterly insulting to every football fan and team to rank LSU #25 before considering the Hogs.
Hogs and Vols will be a whale of a game next season.
Ummm, @v-vols... I don't see a ranking list in this article. All is a title that asks, "Was Tennessee the most impressive bowl team in the SEC?" followed by an article that only talks about how impressive TN was in the Gator Bowl. And @WazzuP, at lot of freshmen or not, there is no way that TN win was more impressive than Arkansas'. It simply wasn't. For example, AR gave up a mere 59 defensive yards and didn't allow any garbage points; even TX's TD wasn't legit (there was a blatant penalty that made a difference on the play). TN gave up 21 garbage points... just start there.
I'm surprised you didn't just leave the Mississippi teams and Vandy completely off the list as a statement of disgust. ;)
then* perhaps, not the perhaps... ugh
I'm not certain how you rank the Tennessee win over Arkansas' complete and utter obliteration of Texas. If you're going to use the title, "Was Tennessee the most impressive bowl team in the SEC," the perhaps it should really be in question, including a defense of why this game was selected of over the Texas Bowl. It's especially interesting that you even mentioned "garbage points" as an excuse for Tennessee giving up points at the end. I don't get the feeling you paid any attention at all to Arkansas v. Texas: Arkansas gave up ZERO garbage points. Even the sole TD scored by the Longhorns was controversial, as it shouldn't have been called back on a huge hold that made a difference on the play.
Indeed, it was an amazing year. I got to be there for most of it, including the wins overy LSU, Ole Miss and Texas. Speaking of which, the goal posts weren't torn down against after the LSU game. They simply lowered to the ground by the field crew.
Uhhhh.... FSU isn't an SEC team. Good grief.
The bowls don't decide who the teams are anymore. The SEC commissioner has the final say.
Rather, "won't"... same difference in the scheme of things. Bottom line: Either team can win. Nobody said it was unrealistic to think that Mizzou would win, although they're going to have a lot tougher time than their fans think they will.
He didn't say it was unrealistic to pick Mizzou. He said it was unrealistic to say Arkansas couldn't win this game.
PS Having virtually no passing game is hardly firing on all cylinders. Arkansas' passing game has improved the last few weeks, but Mizzou's--well, let's just point out that their passing game is ranked in the 100's. It's going to be tough going if the Tigers can't sling the ball around any. LSU and Ole Miss ran for 99 yards COMBINED against the Hogs.
Bielema's SEC record isn't 2-17. He hasn't even coached 17 SEC games. Check your history. True. it's not much better than that, but this idiocy people keep spewing about him losing 17 SEC games simply isn't true. As for the reason for his record, well, he can hardly be blamed for being left with next to nothing, but he deserves all the credit for the incredible rebuilding effort that's underway. It was a bad time to be down when the rest of the SEC West took a step up. Of course Arkansas fans are feeling pretty good about it the Hogs' situation: We're talking about a team that started off the year playing 1/2 games, advanced to playing 3/4 games, and improved to 5 or 6 plays from winning on the road at the #1 team in the nation before getting over the hump and utterly humiliating its last 2 SEC opponents. On top of that, it's a battle-tested team that was very competitive in most of its SEC games despite that 7 out of its 8 SEC battles were with top 10 teams and the remaining one was with a team that was ranked 17th. The Hogs got over the hump and did the unthinkable: They became the first team in the history of college football to shut out two ranked teams in a row. So, yeah, Hog fans are feeling pretty good. Mizzou is getting the job done, too, but they'll need to show a bit more offensive prowess to get past this Razorback team. Both teams are ranked #16 in the nation for points scored against them, but the Hogs are ranked significantly higher than the Tigers in points scored for them--and that's against vastly superior competition. Both teams are playing well right now, and something has to give. Frankly, I think it's going to be a defensive battle with neither team scoring more than 17. It ought to be a whale of a battle, and were it not for home-field advantage, I'd be giving Arkansas the nod. Instead, I'm calling it a pick 'em. GO HOGS!
Arkansas-Mizzou is going to have a lot lower score than that. It's going to be a defensive battle. Don't be surprised if neither team scores more than 17. Then again, I said that about last weekend's Hogs' game as well.
That would be a sound reason if this wasn't a power ranking.
We can't expect them to get simple things like facts correct when they just put Ole Miss one spot above Arkansas in a power ranking one day after the Hogs completely dismantled the Rebels despite playing most of the game with a backup QB at the helm.
Arkansas OBLITERATED Ole Miss, and you chose to rank the Rebels one spot ahead of the Hogs. Why? That makes no sense whatsoever. Sure, Ole Miss has a better record than Arkansas, but if you use that logic, the Hogs should be behind LSU and Texas A&M. Please provide more context so there's an understanding behind your ranking logic in this situation. Thanks.
PS It's Sagarin, not Sargrin, and it's NOT the NCAA standard.
Couple of typos in there, but surely you can read through those. I'm assuming your English is better than your math.
600 colleges? The only fuzzy math here is yours. First of all, Sagarin only rates 253 teams. Moreover, there are only 85 D1 FBS teams and 63 D1 FCS schools. Mizzou is an FBS school, and so their schedule is only relevant vs. those. Furthermore, only ONE of Mizzou's non-conference opponents is a member of a Power 5 conference: That team is Indiana, easily the worst team in the Big Ten--and the Mizzouri LOST to Indiana. Finally, Mizzou plays in by far and away the easier of the two SEC divisions--and the two teams Mizzou plays in the other division only have 2 conference wins between them. Wait until the Tigers lose to the Hogs. Heck, they might even lose to the Vols this weekend. The math is only fuzzy to you because you simply can't do math.
d5hop: Please read the last part of the article's title: "based on Week 12 performances."
1. Will Steve Spurrier say something nice about his team before the season ends? No way 2. Will South Carolina beat Clemson for the sixth straight time? Nope 3. Will Mizzou win another gift wrapped SEC East championship? Not if Arkansas has something to say about it 4. Is Maty Mauk the best QB in the SEC East? Or the worst? By far the worst 5. Will Kentucky make a bowl game after starting 5-1? No 6. With basketball starting, will Kentucky fans even notice? Only if they get to a bowl game, but mostly it'll be a curiosity 7. Can Tennessee get to a bowl game for the first time in 4 years? Can they? Yes. Will they? Yes. 8. Why do fans still value bowl eligibility? Yes 9. Will Bret Bielema win a conference game or end the season 0-16 in conference play since becoming the coach at Arkansas? He'll win 2-3. 10. Did John L. Smith curse Arkansas? Yes 11. Is John L. Smith working slave labor on a Qatar World Cup stadium while he pays off his debts? Most likely 12. Could it get so bad that Arkansas pulls a Louisville and re-hires Bobby Petrino? HELL NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 13. Can the Gators save college football from a CFB Playoff featuring Jameis Winston? No 14. Do Florida fans want the Gators to win out or lose out? Win, but they wouldn't mind seeing Muschamp gone, so losing, although unwelcome, would be a blessing. 15. How many SEC fan bases want Muschamp to be their defensive coordinator in 2015? Pretty much all of them 16. With the emergence of Nick Chubb, do Georgia fans even care that Todd Gurley is back? Not the ones with integrity 17. Can Mississippi State win a championship with the league’s worst passing defense? No 18. Is 2014 Mississippi State the equivalent of 2013 Auburn? No 19. Is 2014 Auburn the equivalent of 2013 Texas A&M? No 20. Is LSU the best three loss team in America? No 21. Is Alabama the best one loss team in America? Yes 22. Is a two loss Ole Miss team the best team in the SEC? No 23. Will this year be the biggest Egg Bowl ever? Yes 24. Will the Egg Bowl have playoff implications while the Iron Bowl doesn’t? No 25. Can this year’s Iron Bowl possibly out-do other recent Iron Bowls? Improbable 26. Can Dak Prescott catch Oregon’s Mariota for the Heisman? Not unless MS State wins out 27. Can Amari Cooper give the world a “Heisman moment” and sneak into serious consideration for the Heisman? Possibly 28. Will a two loss team win the SEC? It's possible. 29. Will two SEC teams get into the College Football Playoff? It's possible but improbable. 30. Will no SEC teams get into the College Football Playoff? That's stupid. Of course an SEC team will be in the CFP.
Anybody who can see a football in that pic is AMAZING. lol
James Bell 1 min ago Backing your way into 1st place in the East doesn’t make you one of the best teams in the nation. No worries tbough: Somebody else will probably take the East reins when Mizzou loses to Arkansas.
