Missouri is, maybe more than any other state, a mix of Midwest and South. The south and west of the state was settled by English and scots irish that started in Virginia and moved through Kentucky and Arkansas and the StL area and north were settled by the German immigrants people mostly associate with the Midwest. I grew up on tales of Jesse James and Quantrill and other confederate raiders. So, you're right, Mizzou isn't the South and if I had my druthers I'd go back to the Big 8, but not the Big 12. The distinctions between "the South" and adjacent areas are blurry, though and large parts of the state are indistinguishable from Arkansas. Maybe Mizzou, Arkansas, Kentucky, and Tennessee should secede and form the Night Quite Southern Conference.
I don't know what you're talking about. Dobbs is an elite qb with an elite hairline on an elite team in an elite program. If you keep disrespecting the vols they are going to stop taking it easy on the sec.
They weren't very good when I lived in Maryville in circa 1990. I left and they became a powerhouse. Figures.
You have strange logic. It's the score that matters and Mizzou had the lead late in the 3rd quarter. Auburn was the better team but it was a competitive game.
Alabama slapped us around, but history of the seccg is filled with blowouts. As for the Auburn game, it was competitive with Auburn only pulling away at the end. I get that you're talking smack, but it should bear some resemblance to the truth.
I'm pretty sure Missouri fans rushed the field after the Arkansas game last season.
I'm a Mauk fan. He needs to stop under throwing his deep routes, though.
They've talked up the Texas pipeline for Mizzou for years. Unless things have radically changed this last year, I'm going to say that Mizzou still does good work in Texas.
Amen brother, watching how far the longhorns have fallen is great and seeing the Hogs stomp them was sweet.
I was hoping for some SEC camaraderie. It's one of the best parts of bowl season. Instead you guys are arguing about a poorly edited SDS article. CAN'T YOU GUYS SEE THAT YOUR CONSTANT ARGUING IS TEARING THIS CONFERENCE APART?!! Runs to his room and slams his door behind him.
SEC East earning some respect this week. I love it.
Alabama is the premier program in the conference and they were in the mix for a national championship. They're going to talk about that a lot more than a win over a mid level B1G team. I've been talking about the lack of respect Mizzou gets for years, but this is understandable.
You're bad at reading. Maybe get that down first before we move on to logic.
No, we definitely aren't. We don't suffer from entitlement like Georgia fans do. They deserve to go to the seccg, because they're the best team. Now they think they deserve a better bowl. It's time to get over yourselves and accept your mediocrity, guys. You finished 2nd best in a mediocre division. Yes you stomped Mizzou and yes Mizzou has a really embarrassing loss to Indiana and yes you have a more talented team. Unfortunately for you lost 3 games that you should have won while Mizzou only lost 1 game it should have won. Your team choked. It's not our fault, we're just enjoying ourselves.
If the fans had walked onto the field backwards, the SEC would owe Mizzou $25,000!
That's stupid. That's like saying that if the AFC champion loses the Super bowl, then the next best team in the AFC becomes AFC champ. It's like saying that if Bama plays in the national championship and loses, they drop down to 3rd. It should help and hurt you compared to teams from other conferences, it shouldn't allow the second best team in your division to jump you in bowl precedence. Because that would basically be rewarding choke artist Jawjuh for being second best.
I mean it's one thing for a team from another conference to pass you because of a ccg loss, but it shouldn't happen with a team in your division that was sitting on its thumbs while you played in the conference championship game. Obviously I'm aware that it happens, see the original comment. It just shouldn't.
Yeah. Playing in the conference championship game outweighs that. You shouldn't penalize teams for playing the ccg.
Doesn't Matter, Division Champions
Remember when Mizzou went to the Big 12 ccg and the loss gave the conference an excuse to put Kansas in the Orange Bowl instead of us? If Georgia leap frogs us this year if we lose the secccg, I'ma write someone a very strongly worded letter.
That's cute. No, a 3 loss team isn't going to a New Year's 6 bowl. Especially not one that's 4th best in their conference. lol Georgia fans, still thinking they're elite.
I don't know why Mizzou has to "redeem" itself. It played a team that played in the national championship game tough until Auburn pulled away in the 4th.
Not to be a wet blanket, but I don't like the Quantrill stuff as a way to hype the rivalry. A group of pro slavery raiders who murdered people is not something I like to brag about. The Tigers are actually named after the Columbia militia who existed to protect the town from said Confederate irregulars. This automatically makes us classier than KU whose team is named after pro union irregulars and looters and murderers.
You seem to be laboring under the false belief that if a ref doesn't immediately announce the reason for the flag that they have to pretend it never happened. There may or may not have been an offside. I don't know that and you don't know that because none of the camera angles were on the line. It did appear that #34's head may have broken the plane prior to the kickoff, making it an offside. There were two refs standing on the 35 and staring down the line and they had better views to make the call than any of us have. You don't have to step over the line for it to be an offside. Any part of your body crossing it is an offside.
It isn't a done deal. Arkansas will be tough. Maybe quit acting like Georgia DESERVES to go to the conference championship game.
I'm sorry, but it's not clear that it wasn't offside. 34's (4th player from the bottom of the screen) head either broke the plane or it was very close. The camera angles made it hard to judge and there are 2 refs on the line looking down the line. Even if offside calls were reviewable, there would have insufficient evidence to overturn them.
It's hard to tell if 34 broke the plane with his helmet from this angle. A ref is standing on the line and has a better view. Either way it's close and Missouri got lucky.
Everyone, including opposing secondaries, is much more polite than Mauk deserves. He threw 4 or 5 interceptions last night that weren't caught. He underthrows every deep route. It seems like he wants to flip all his down field passes instead of getting his feet set. It's very frustrating.
