Was that really worth making an article about? One Bielema joke and an opinion from someone else who doesn't understand how trophy games work? Seems like wasted time and effort.
Haha I understand that! Although the uniform in no way reflects how the players play the game, but I do agree about the track record with them. We've worn the anthracite color three times (2012 vs Kentucky and Ole Miss, 2013 vs Miss State) which we won the first and lost the other two. I'm still pumped though! WPS!
Clearly, people are upset about the alternate uniform. Honestly, is it that big of a deal to y'all for the team to get excited about something? Sure, cardinal red and white is tradition, but this is for the players, not the fan base. Recruits love this stuff and eat it up when they are there for visits. That's why we have one of the best facilities in the country. It's not for the fans, it's for the players/recruits. You may hate it or love it, but honestly, the program doesn't care. It's for them and it gets them pumped to play. The uniforms are not necessarily my favorite, but I'm still going to watch the game and cheer on my Razorbacks! Just be happy and move on. There's no sense in spreading negativity in this world, especially when it relates to a uniform change, in which you have no say in. Win, lose, or tie, I'm a Razorback till I die! WPS!
I completely agree. After that miracle 4th down conversion and scoring the touchdown on the next play, the momentum is there to go for it. The first attempt on the 2-point conversion was the same play Arkansas ran in the 4th overtime against Auburn, only they had Alex Collins in the backfield this time instead of Kody Walker. Although he got a little banged up, it was awesome seeing Brandon win the game after the performance he displayed.
I agree. They got the right look from UT in order to run the play. What Bielema didn't account for was the defender Sprinkle was blocking to run all the way to the sideline. Sprinkle's block is supposed to be a reach and pin back inside, so then McFain, the kicker, doesn't have to run all the way to the sideline without gaining any yards. I did like the call, UT just defended it well. It was also one of those plays that if it worked, it would've been a fantastic call. And if it didn't work, it was a very questionable call. Luckily it worked out in the end.
The first week is always like this, though. Every team, well most teams, play cupcake games to work out all the kinks, which leads to inflated scores, stats, and media hype. Give it another week to see what each team is really made of. I cannot wait for conference play to begin!
Actually, Ohio State had to vacate that Sugar Bowl win. So, technically, we didn't lose.
Arkansas updated their poster a couple weeks ago. The state shaped one was made back in the spring. The new one is better.
#77 Brandon Burlsworth - Arkansas Razorbacks. Joined the Razorbacks as a walk-on offensive lineman, ended his career as a 2 time All-SEC player and an All-American. Drafted by the Colts in 1999, but died in a car crash 11 days later. BleacherReport named him the best walk-on player during the BCS era. The Burlsworth Trophy, given yearly to the most outstanding player who started their career as a walk-on, was created in memory of Brandon's great career.
Most of the Arkansas hype videos that have been released are those created by fans, with the only exception being the "When the Racks Go Up, the Freaks Come Out" video created by Razorback Sports Network, and that wasn't really intended as a "hype" video. Anyways, because fans create the videos, it is very common for them to use the same clips. The key to making hype videos is to choose plays that returning players made from the year before. With Fall camp beginning this week, I'm sure they'll spend an afternoon with RazorVision or RSN to put together the official gameday intro video, just like they did last year. All of these videos are doing their purpose because I absolutely cannot wait for the season to begin! WPS!
Don't even get me started on Under Armour. Sorry, South Carolina, but y'all need to upgrade.
Brandon Allen is the absolute best option we have at QB right now. Austin is decent, but lacks experience. Ty needs one more year, maybe two, to learn and develop. And Rafe, he may never take a snap with Arkansas. I think it all depends on how the next year plays out with Ty.
Arkansas went 5-0 against non-conference during the 2011 season, as well!
Although it was a loss, I would label going to the first and only BCS game in Arkansas history as a better year than a Cotton Bowl win.
I don't think Ole Miss has the best defense in the country.
Murf, thanks for another great article! I couldn't agree more with you, and Walrus, about Robb Smith, and also how Ellis and Williams will complement each other well at OLB and MLB, respectively. Strictly based on personnel we lost from 2014, I do believe our defense will take a step backwards, but I'm anxious to see guys step up and prove me wrong. Oh, and Arkansas beat Ole Miss 30-0! WPS!
I am very much looking forward to Arkansas vs Tennessee. With both teams, potentially, at 4-0 (Arkansas beats Texas Tech & Texas A&M, Tennessee beats Oklahoma & Florida) heading into the game, we could see a Top 20 match-up between two dark horse teams. Plus, Neyland Stadium is 1 of the 5 SEC stadiums that I haven't been to yet, and I pray that the crowd pulls out the checkerboard pattern again! Also, the Missouri vs Arkansas game will never get College GameDay because it's always played on Friday. But CBS picks it up and we're usually the only game on TV anyways!
I assume Cam Newton would be #3 on this list, with Manziel at #2 and Tebow at #1.
I cannot imagine how AJ Derby must be feeling. The guy puts relentless effort into this past season, battling through injuries, has to miss out on the Senior Bowl to fully recover from injuries, then be told he has a stress fracture in his foot and can't compete in the on-field workouts. I wish he recovers quickly. He's worked too hard not to be given a chance.
I was so fortunate to attend the LSUvsARK game in '07. One of the best games I've ever seen. The atmosphere in Death Valley is second-to-none.
I'm completely baffled with him. Clearly capable of starting QB for at least a hundred other D-1 schools, Jones would've likely been a backup QB his entire OSU career (just assuming that Braxton and J.T. didn't get injured), then just get a random job after graduation. It's just crazy how drastically your odds can change after one or two plays, especially since myself and probably most of the country didn't know who he was until the B1G championship.
It's probably a long shot, but since it was the last game to be played without an SEC team, "take a drink every time they show highlights of the 2006 National Championship game between Texas and USC." Key phrase: "one of the greatest college football games of all time." And just for kicks, one shot of the liquor of your choosing, if they mention USC having to vacate the 2005-2006 season.
I wouldn't blame him. Although Michael Smith (WR's coach) is a very good coach and recruiter, it's hard to convince a highly sought after WR recruit to come play for a run-heavy offense, despite the vast improvement Arkansas has shown. Coach Smith did good things at Kansas State because, like a lot of the BIG XII, it relies on a high-powered passing game (According to NCAA.com, Kansas State was ranked 16th in passing offense, while Arkansas ranked 100th). My hope is that KJ Hill, being an Arkansas native, just wants to stay in-state, and that our next OC will have a little more diversity in the play-action/passing game.
