This conclusion is ridiculous! I lived in Ruston, LA when Dooley was there and he was not a good coach there. He wasn't liked there. He inherited good recruits and won limited despite of himself. I am tired of sports reporters, most of which have never played the game at any high level, committing on things in sports that they are unequipped to. Have you been at the practices? How is that offensive line performing in practice? Maybe that has something to do with the passing game plan? Have you been in the coach planning sessions? The Dooley teams didn't compete and late visibly gave up on Dooley (not my words/observations, many of the players have said that Dooley lost the team). This team is competing but are failing at key points of the games, which is common in programs that have learned to fail. Yes, coaching mistakes have been made as well. Last year, the vols were not even close to competitive in the OU game and they should have beaten the gators last year, but neither team deserved to win that ugly game. This year the vols competed for 3 quarters in the OU game and 4 quarters in the brutally physical FL game. Florida's offensive line out performed TN's offensive line. Numerous missed blocks and assignments occurred by the line--I would imagine that the game plan is a means to save Dobbs neck this season as evident by the early sacks by the gators. If the Vols make the field goals in both games, we are 4-0 and you are probably writing about how the vols should be in the playoffs. Programs have to learn to win that is why Jones speaks of a program development mentality. Your articles and the like do nothing to promote a culture of repair and building, but of continued destruction and defeat. When you commit sweat, blood, injuries to the program than maybe, but when all you commit (as we all do as fans) is emotions, don't let your emotions get the best of you intelligence.
